Ho-hum

Nothing new. No new jobs. But I still have mine, so that's a bonus, right? Right. Another bonus: free lunch everyday. Yum.

I had a weird dream last night. I don't recall having them last year, but I may have and just don't remember. I was dreaming about someone special being abandoned at a restaurant for two days. Why anyone would ever abandon her is beyond me, cos she's the best. Was the best. I'm recording this in case I have another. They'll probably stop near the end of April.

I started a lace scarf. I know, I know. I have too many WIPs already. But it's lace. And it's blue. I'll post pictures next time.

I'm Back

Ravelry has taken over my computer time. Sorry about that. Dad's still jobless, but that may change sometime soon. I certainly hope so ... I have plans to move out someday!

I'm starting to settle with the "local coffee shop", even though some days it seems like I'll get fired for absolutely nothing. I don't want this to be my final career choice. I'm a secretary.

Quick update knitting-wise:

Corona is finished

My mittens are done

I started a scarf (and some socks, and a sweater)

Here's the sweater I started (last Thursday! I ran out of yarn ...)

My alpaca capelet is hibernating cos I got bored of it

I'm still not buying yarn, but there are plans in the future for a day of yarn-hopping (? I think that was the term my friend used) so I'm saving up.

Laziness

I just received an e-mail from a job I applied to last week. They're asking me for my contact telephone number. So I checked the resume I had attached to this e-mail and saw that, yes, my phone number is on my resume. Obviously these people are too lazy to even read an entire resume (if they read it at all). Needless to say, I no longer desire to work for these people.

Last week's band competition went well, musically. We didn't get invited to MusicFest, which was our goal. I expect a lecture tomorrow night. I may lecture people myself. Our conducter insists on playing music beyond the band's capabilities.

My dad has an interview today. Let's hope this is it!

I'm knitting mittens. Why? Cos I lost mine. I'm knitting Bella's Mittens, not because I'm a fan of whatever they're from, but because they look really, really warm. I should probably take a picture of the one I finished.

I did finish that Counterpoint Scarf. Now to shock and amaze my friends at band.

I also cast on for this capelet pattern I found at Michael's on Friday. I wasn't going to buy yarn, but then Dad wanted something so I splurged and got four balls of Bernat Alpaca. Yummy.

Then, of course, there was my trip to Paris yesterday for SEX. I wasn't going to buy yarn there, either. My mom needed some for her February Lady Sweater, so we went to Mary Maxim's. Needless to say, I ended up with a couple hanks of this baby alpaca, some Cascade 220, and a small ball of cotton. So much for not buying any yarn.

Side story: When I asked my sister if she wanted to pet the baby alpaca, she actually looked around for an animal.

Wow, What A Week

Hmm, Wednesday was my last post. I got food poisoning on Wednesday. I woke up feeling ill, and I couldn't figure out why. Then my mom called saying she wouldn't be there for the interview because she was sick. It clicked and we blame the cake from Monday night's birthday party.

No one else got sick, though. In fact, my stepdad is still eating it a week later with no side effects.

I managed just about 2 hours at work before I gave in and went home. I did the interview, but barely. I didn't eat all day and actually had to ask my dad to drive me and my car buddy to band (it's an hour away).

I got a call after the interview from another company asking me if I could do an interview Thursday at 10am. I accepted, but in retrospect it was a waste of my time. The original job post was data entry, but they told me during the interview that it was temporarily data entry and the actual job was sales. I don't do sales. Good thing they didn't call me back, because I was going to give them heck for misrepresenting themselves.

I think I've recovered. I can think of most foods without feeling sick and my appetite's back to normal. Took a while, though. I cleaned out the refrigerator.

I finished my mom's replacement wristwarmers and frogged my friend's scarf because I haven't seen her in months. She can buy one cheaper off the internet.

I started Corona and a Counterpoint Scarf. I haven't decided if I'll participate in the ravelympics yet. We shall see.

Wish us luck, there's a band competition tomorrow night!

I'm Falling

I have a job interview today. I got a call at work yesterday from a place I applied to over the weekend and they asked me if I could come in today at 2pm. I said I would call back because I wasn't sure (I work from 11am to 7pm).

I hung up the phone and said, "Oh, crap, 2pm? How's that going to work?" My manager, Sarah, was in earshot and asked if I had a doctor's appointment or something. I looked at her. You know, I wish I could've seen my own face during those few moments of indecision.

"Nope, job interview."

Well, she was okay with that. She did ask me if I was planning on leaving them, which I thought was rather dumb (probably small talk).

So, we'll see! I do feel rather ill, though.

Blech

I hate winter. I don't like being cold. It's worse this year because my job requires me to work in the freezer sometimes.

Oh, jobs. There were two hours on Thursday where I almost walked out of the store. When upper management decides to be really cheap and cut labour, we get a little pissed off. I've been telling customers to complain to head office if they don't like waiting in huge lines because there are only 4 people working.

I tell ya, when Dad gets a job, I'm outta there!

Hey, I finished that cardigan! Cast off Thursday, blocked overnight and all day Friday, sewed buttons Friday night, wore it all day yesterday! Of course, yesterday was really cold and I wished I'd made the sleeves longer, but whatever.

Sidenote: I really hate full moons. Anyone who lives in Hamilton will be familiar with the Sherman cut and that tight turn just before Charleton Ave. (St.? Ave.? Whatever.) Well, last night I was going down the mountain and chose this particular access. I was almost at the bottom, going around this tight little turn (thankfully doing about 30km/h) when the car ahead of me slammed on his brakes. I slammed on mine and I imagine the car behind me braked quickly as well 'cause there was no contact made. The reason? Some *idiot* had driven up the *wrong side* of the road (which is blocked in). He had to back out (and did so rather drunkenly, in my opinion) and stopped in the worst spot ever. The car in front of me kept going but also drove stupidly and illogically. I drove around him and went on my merry way, trying to keep my hands from shaking. I seriously blame this on the moon.

I did start and finish (except for the lining) a felted bag. Turned out nice and I got to work with grommets for the first time.

I think I'll start a Corona today (the hoodie, not the beer, although ...).

I'm never taking the Sherman access ever again.

Set In My Ways

Of startitis, of course. I finished the Fair Isle Tam and promptly used it as a last-minute Secret Santa on Saturday (I also included some shortbread). However, I'm half-way through a second one because the socks I finished for mom don't fit her!
I'm not likely to knit socks for a while. I'm just not a sock knitter.

So mom'll get a tam and a pair of wristwarmers in a couple of months as replacements. Also, I finished a quick key-hole scarf in a day.

I'm still working on my cardigan, but it's slow going. I'm also trying to clean up some UFOs:

Pumpkin - I decided to stuff it with the remaining ball of orange yarn. I'm sick of it being around. Now I just have to crochet eyes and a nose and a mouth for it.

Newborn Baby Layette - I'm about half-way and bored already with it (again).

There's also my brown sweater that's hibernating and the striped scarf that I'm waiting on. Actually, I don't have a lot of unfinished work. Maybe I should cast on for a felted bag ....
